Location

History

The Albemarle Sound has played a key role in this area’s history since it was first discovered by Native Americans, then by European explorers in the late 1500s.  It served as a major source of transportation for early colonists as they began developing their first settlements; they were able to use the Albemarle Sound as a reliable way to ship their goods, like tobacco, lumber, and seafood.  Today, it is still an essential part of this area’s culture, as it creates numerous options for outdoor recreation!
