The original first-floor woodwork, which was sold to the Brooklyn Museum in 1918 and displayed there for over 100 years, has finally come home. Tours take you through the house and that ongoing restoration story in a way that feels alive rather than preserved behind glass.
If you want to venture a little off the main drag, the Edenton Cotton Mill Museum of History is located in the original mill office building at 420 Elliott Street. It sits inside one of the most well-preserved intact mill villages in North Carolina, a property listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a different chapter of Edenton’s story than the colonial sites downtown, and an interesting one.

Just around the corner, 26 Windows Gallery is the only live painting studio in Edenton. Artist Patrick Dablow works in the studio while visitors look on, and his bold coastal and abstract pieces are available to take home.
